2008 SUMMER DANCE INTENSIVE

The S.P.A.C.E. Summer Dance Intensive (SSDI) is a program of intensive training geared towards young dancers who are interested in the evaluation and improvement of their skills by a faculty that includes some of the most experienced teachers and professional dancers in the Chicago area. The program consists of 3 sessions, each lasting for 2 weeks. SSDI offers classes for intermediate and advanced dancers, with the advanced level being particularly suited to young professionals in the early stages of their dance careers.

There are many truly unique advantages SSDI offers over other summer dance programs including the high level of expertise of the faculty. One of the most important educational components of SSDI is the opportunity for students to perform at the end of the program. With daily intensive classes and rehearsals, SSDI students are fully immersed in the world of dance during their 6-week experience!

Curriculum
The ballet curriculum will consist of daily classes in technique, pointe, variations, character, and repertoire. In addition, Modern, Jazz, Tap, Hip-Hop, Yoga, and Pilates components will prepare the students for a performance at the end of the program.

Enrollment in SSDI is limited to 15 students per class to insure a high student-to-teacher ratio. Classes with fewer than 5 students enrolled will be canceled or combined.

Faculty
SSDI has assembled a world-class faculty with extensive performance and teaching experience. Our faculty includes both former professionals who are now Master Teachers and professional dancers currently at the peak of their careers. This presents SSDI students to learn from the very best in the business and to benefit from their years of experience and skill.

Partnering Class with Altin Naska

An especially exciting component of the SSDI curriculum is the Friday partnering class taught by Altin Naska. Each week, Mr. Naska will teach the basic aspects of partnering to the advanced level SSDI students.

Focus Groups with SSDI Faculty
Members of the SSDI Faculty will participate in weekly informal focus group sessions to be held after lunch on Fridays. The discussions will focus on the world of professional dance and the characteristics and personal attributes that contribute to a successful career in dance. Students will have the opportunity to ask the dancers questions and learn about their differing career paths. This is a unique aspect of the SSDI program that can help students re-focus their own goals and provide additional incentives for their further study.

Facility
SSDI studios are located in Chicago's beautiful Lincoln Park neighborhood with five large classrooms upgraded to ballet studios featuring high ceilings and sprung wood floors with marley.
