Mommy & Me

(18 months - 31/2) 

Toddlers are introduced to the joy of making music with mommy or daddy. Rhymes, songs, rhythmic movement basic feet and arm positions nurture the child's musical instincts. Our experienced instructors will begin to work on jumps, and learn exercises for strength and flexibility. The class focuses on the basic concepts of movement, balance, rhythm and coordination, utilizing colors, shapes, numbers and direction following. Mommy and Me classes help babies learn to listen and focus through imitation and short dance combinations.

Sing & Play Orff Class 

Sing & Play is a class for children 3 ½ - 6 years old. It serves as a preparation for families interested in studying an instrument within the Suzuki environment, and as an opportunity to have fun for anyone who enjoys music. In Sing & Play, children will be introduced to the Orff approach of music education uses very rudimentary forms of everyday activities in the purpose of music creation by young individuals. This includes singing in groups and performing voice instrumental music, rhymes and playing instruments such as the metallophone, xylophone, glockenspiel, and other percussive instruments. 

The music generated is largely improvisational and original tonal constructions and this builds a sense of confidence and interest in the process of creative thinking. Children also make music together in a group and hence realize the joys of group co-ordination and cohesion. It may also involve the participation of other adults and parents in music making. Thus it brings the role of parent in child education in a central position. During class time, in addition to learning the beginning rhythms, the student develops coordination, the ability to listen carefully and respond physically, to start and stop at a set point in time (pre-ensemble skills), and to take turns. Musical concepts such as dynamics & tempo will be introduced. Each child develops individually and moves to instrument lessons at his or her own pace. Remember that regardless of how much he/she participates or seems to "get it", ear-training will always be in progress!
